The Buinovo chain - Jagodina - The cave of Jagodina 

Route 1 - Buinovo chain, Jagodina, Jagodina cave
The way to Jagodina passes through the incredibly beautiful Buinovo chain and weaves along by the beginning of the Krichim river. In 2 km away of the road is situated the countryside Hadjiyski Dol which is famous for so called Devil’s bridge – a natural rock formation about which the legend tells that it can be passed only by the Devil. Nearby is situated the waterfall Pruskaloto. Three ecopaths with different difficulty and continuance begin from the village.The greatest memorability of the village is the instantly close situated (in 2 km from the turnout to the village) Jagodina cave which with its 10 km labyrinths is the longest cave in the Rodopian mountains. It is formed around the foreshore of Buinovska river a pearl in the crown of the unique Rodopian beauty and it is known also as the “Hole of the Imam”. A special path passing through the cave offers the ability the beautiful underground world which has been formed for billions of years to be seen. The electrical lightning spectacularly illuminates marvelous forms: draperies, tube stalactites, cave pearls, “leopard’s” skin, stalacton and many other. Some of the forms remind of Santa Claus, Snow White and the seven dwarves, Sait Mery with the Infant, Pijo and Penda, other ones carry the names: The Elephant, The Crocodile. Much more can be told about the magic and beauty of the cave but man could be mostly delighted if he sees with his own eyes.

The Devils Throat - Haramiyska cave - Trigrad

Route 2 - The Devil’s Throat, Haramyiska cave, Trigrad
Magnificent and impressing with its beauty the Trigrad chain is situated along the Trigradska river. The main part of the chain is outspreaded in 2-3 km along the river and at the both sides uprise marbel rocks which form a narrow gorge. The enormous vertical rocks constrict the way of the water which enters the canyon chain turbulently and furiously. One of the phenomenons of the Trigrad chain this is the abyss cave The Devil’s Throat. Through a digged tunnel (150 m) you canreach an impressing with its sizes hall which can receive in it the “St. Alexander Nevsky” cathedral. Using a weaving cement ladder you can reach the natural entrance of the cave. During your climbing you can watch one of the highest underground waterfalls in Europe (42 m). The legend says that exactly here Orpheos got down into the kingdom of Hades to save his Euridika. The “Haramyiska” cave is situated nearby the Devil’s Throat. It is not equipped with services and utilities but it’s used for cave tourism because of the archaeological troves in it. In the “Haramyiska” cave you can enter only by using a special equipment. The lovers of the extreme experiences under the leadership of qualified guides and cave instructors reach the foot of the cave on foot. To the entrance of the cave where many troves from the cave people are found you can reach after a steep climbing. The multiple archaeological troves found around the village (cave homes and Thracian necropolises) talk about its ancient origin. The Trigrad village is situated in about 26 km on the South of Devin. It is considered that it leads its beginning from 3 smaller villages from where comes its name – Trigrad or Triibrya which is its old name. 

Devinska river - "Struilica" - "Kaleto"

Route 3 - Devinska river, "Struilica", "Kaleto"
Through the town of Devin passes Devinska river which impresses with its beauty. Only in 2 km from Devin are situated two basins with hot mineral water in the “Struilica” countryside near which passes the river. Directly over the basin starts a circling tourist route following which only in two hours time you can reach the ruins of the ancient Bulgarian fortress in the “Kaleto” countryside, one of the last fortresses where the heroic citizens of the Rodopian mountains with their unheard valour faught for their freedom against the ottoman invaders. The fortress has “landed” at the end of a rock cape in near 100 meters above the Devinska river plane. This place with its picturesque reminds of Tzarevetz. It is pronounced a historical mоnument in 1979. Walking the adventure path formed by bridges which are settled at the outflow of the Devinska river in its canyon you will be delighted by the beauty of the Rodopian nature as well as by the power of the water. There where “the adventure” is over the hotel offers an opportunity to make a picknick at one of the many beautiful meadows.

Pamporovo - Snejanka peak

Route 4 - Pamporovo - Snejanka peak
Pamporovo is a modern ski resort situated in the heart of the Rodopian mountains. This is the sunniest Bulgarian mountain resort and the snow cover is kept during the whole saeson. Snejanka is one of the most magnificent peaks in Bulgaria. With its 1926 meters it is the highest peak in the Pamporovo resort. Many ski runwaysstart from the peak which are an alluring proposal for each winter sports lover. Over the Snejanka slopes there are few lifts with one and two seats and hoists for the tourists. 

Shiroka luka - Prevala - Smolian lakes 

Route 5 - Shiroka Luka – Prevala – Smolian lakes
The route begins from the center of the village Shiroka Luka in direction of Pamporovo resort. After 15 minutes an arched brige over the Shirokolushka river is reached where the little river Oslen flows in it. Then you turn right and keep following the forest road along the right foreshore of the Oslen river. Immediately in the beginning of the route is situated the natural landmark “The Summer Forest” which is pronounced a safe territory with purpose to keep the ancient spruce/fir forest. In 15 minutes you can reach a bench with a table and a fountain called Gergana (Ezmoto). This water is considered healing by the native people. 40 minutes after the fountain the road curves and there is another fountain which is called “Djufarovi”. On the left slope you can see houses from the Grashtica hood.
In 30 minutes the route turns into an asphalted plot. On the East is situated the countryside Livadica – wide meadows of the Stoikite village. In Southeast stands Cherni Vruh (1845 m). On the Southeast is situated the Vracha height – a historical countryside with ruins of a fortress from the Second Bulgarian Kingdom. On the right in Southwest direction you can see the Kuzujatak heights and the Mechata kaba hill. On the West you can see the Turlata peak (1824 m) and after that on the right the Shirokolushki Snejnik peak (2188) which is known among the native people as Shilestata Chuka.
The route leaves again the asphalted road and continiues along a country road in East direction through the meadows of the Livadica countryside. In 10 minutes after the meadows you climb along a cart-road in Southwest direction. In 45 minutes you reach its upper side in the Kabata countryside. After that you continue in East direction along a truck road and you reach the Prevala country side.
You walk 45 minutes following the roadway to Smolian to the Kriva Reka countryside. In 10 minutes you can reach the rest station “Mechta”. You pass around the bulding from its left side and in 10-15 minutes walking a well shaped path you pass by one of the 7 famous Smolian lakes. The three upper lakes are situated around the cabin. The one wich stands above the other is called “Mutnoto” and it is the deepest one.
After the lake you reach an asphalted road following which you go further and after 5 more minutes you reach the “Smolianski ezera” cabin. It is situated on a terrace lawn at 1526 m altitude above the sea level.
From the area of the “Smolianski ezera” cabin a ropeway with seats leads the tourists to the “Snejanka” peak.
To the “Snejanka” peak in the period between The 20 of May and The 15 of September you can reach from the center of the Pamporovo resort. First you have to take Lift 1 to the Studenec cabin and from there Lift 2 to the peak. From the “Snejanka” peak to the “Smolianski ezera” cabin you can reach by Lift 4.


v. Gela 

Route 6 - v. Gela
The village is situated in 7 km from Shiroka Luka. An asphalted road which turns on the right at the turnout with the Solishta village leads to it. If you climb on one of the hills among which the village is widespreaded in front of your eyes will be exposed a beautiful panoramic view. The Rodopian peaks are arranged as a sea and they disappear behind the horizon. In nowadays the Gela village has just a few dozens of habitants. The multiple archaeological troves witness that the village is one of the most ancient settlements in the Rodopian mountains. Near the Turlata peak has been discovered a cave picture representing a man and animals running after him. Nearby the “St. Ilia” chapel during excavations were found ancient Thracian mounds. It was found a mass burial of more than 20 thracians about which the archaeologists claim that it was a ritual burial of a noble Thracian chief.
In the graves discovered there were found ceramic vessels. During the excavations were found many adornments and amber beads, a proof for the cultural relations of the ancient habitants with distant countries and people. Around the village near the Lomut countryside were found remains of an ancient Roman road. The “Saint Trinity” church which is situated near the Ilinden meadows stands over the substructions of an ancient early Christian monastery. There are many legends and myths connected with the existence of the monastery.
In the vicinity of Gela you can find the Flower of Orpheos which figure in the antiquity was put on coins. The Flower of Orpheos is a unique endemit. It is the only vegetal specie in the world which has the capacity to become anabiotic (fake death). Even picked up and kept herbarized for many years its roots are able to resuscitate their activity after being planted again.

Dospat reservoir 

Route 7 - Dospat reservoir
The Dospat reservoir is situated in the heart of the fairy Rodopian mountains immediately to the town with the same name in about 82 km on the West form Smolian. Situated 1200 meters above the sea level it is the reservoir with the highest altitude in Bulgaria and with its 22 000 decares water area it has the second biggest capacity.
The nature around the Dospat reservoir is incredibly beautiful. When the last curve of the road to Dospat is passed on the right in front of the town a majestic view is discovered. When you look down you first thought is that you are in heaven. The reservoir glances like an adamant and in front of you at the high slopes of the Western Rodopian mountains little houses and hotels are grounded. The ancient spruce and scotch pine woods are all over around you as a ring around the reservoir. And the air elates with its smell of pitch.
The reservoir is rich in fish. In it swims bass, carp, grey mullet, bleak, rudd and trout. The conditions here for the developing of sporting and economic fishing are excellent. Few kinds of fishing are practiced here: bobber fishing, bottom fishing, fly fishing, spoon fishing and vobbler fishing.
Closely are situated Vucha, Surnica, Beglika, Batak and Shiroka Poliana reservoirs.
The immediate closeness of the reservoir to Dospat and the marvelous nature offer wonderfull opportunities for rest and tourism.

v. Shiroka Luka

Route 8 - v. Shiroka Luka
Shiroka Luka village is situated in 22 km from Devin. The multiple houses which have conserved the specific Rodopian architecture, the cobblestoned streets, the arched bridges over the river, the specific speech, songs and customs of the native people became a reason for the Shiroka Luka village to be pronounced an architectural and an ethnographic reserve. The name of the village came from the fairly wide river split “luka” of the same name. Favourite places of the tourists are: The Ethnogrpahic Museum, “The Assuption of the Virgin”, the house where the great Bulgarian patriot Exarch Stefan was born and other. The pride of Shiroka Luka is the Folklor Мusicial Highschool. which carries the fame of the Bulgarian folklor beyond the Bulgarian borders.

In the very heart of the mountain spattered like pearl necklace seeds is situated the town of Smolian. This ancient and young, wise and cheery town will charm you with its marvelous combination between old and young architecture, with its elate of linden in the beginning of the summer, with its colour magic of the fall and the white silence of the winter. In the Historical museum there are kept collection of the “secret” Christian and religious sanctuaries in the Rodopian mountains since the ages of the Ottoman slavery, national Rodopian costumes and textile handyworks, handmade metal, wooden and ceramic products, ancient weapons, documents and manuscripts. The Planetarium is one of the most famous tourist attractions of the city. In the hall wit the “star’s sky” you can feel yourself a part of the Universe, to step on the Moon thanks to the mighty telescope or just to be astonished from the demonstration of the artificial sky with stars, elated by the cosmic music. The specific character of the exposition in the Art gallery is because of the Rodopian style which is used in the bigger part of the collection and because of the inspiration from the Rodopian nature and traditions. Not so back in the past the Smolian lakes “emerald eyes of the Rodopian mountains” were 20 and only 7 from them have been preserved until nowadays. The uniquely beautiful “Mutno” lake is the deepest among them and it is situated at the highest level above the sea.
